Original Vintage Canadian Pacific Hawaii Surf Travel Poster 1930 issue, arguably the rarest of all the Hawaiian surf posters and one of the earliest examples of advertising travel posters to feature surf imagery. The poster shows the figures of 2 Haole tourists cresting a wave surfing with the steamship ocean-liner cruising into port. The underlying message presumably saying: You to can do this! just come on over!

On the ocean-liner we can see the name 'Empress of Japan' a majestic ship built in Scotland for Canadian Pacific Steamships in 1929. Canadian Pacific Steamship Company was a subsidiary of Canadian Pacific Railways. It was operational from the 1880s through the 1940s in the Atlantic and Pacific. The Company was manned by British crews and flew the British flag. One can only imagine the lure of Hawaii with its exotic people and climate on the Canadian (and European) populous, especially in wintertime. The poster has a tag on back (we have attached a photo we took of it prior to mounting it on linen) stating that the printing process was done with oil paint an extremely rare execution.

  • Excellent original condition with only minor restoration.
  • Paint is bright and vivid with no rips or tears.
  • For posterity this poster has been professionally linen backed.
  • Dimensions: 36 in. 24 in. .94 in. D
