David Nuuwiha Vintage Surfboard c. 1970
This 1970s ALL ORIGINAL David Nuuwiha single fin fish
tail is a piece of surf history to ride or display.
It’s rare to find double eagle logos on a Nuuwiha deck;
these and the additional oversize eagle logo on the
bottom cement this board’s rarity. Layered shades of
yellows and light greens contrasted with red accents
create a remarkable palate and vibe.
In 1966 David Nuuwiha won the Surfer Magazine readers
poll, and was acknowledged as the best nose rider in the
world. Bing Surfboards made the Nuuwiha signature
board which became the hottest selling board that year.
Placement as the poster child of the ‘new look’ sponsored
surfer brought him endorsement deals upwards of
$25,000 in 1967. Participation in the 1968 and 1971 US
Surfing Championships heightened his recognition even
more.
Nuuhiwa was the first celebrity surfer, he oozed style,
looked like a rock star and regularly showed up in a
Porsche or Rolls with girls galore and a traveling fan club.
