Additional Information

Clyde Beatty Jr., son of famed circus owner and animal trainer Clyde Beatty Sr., honors his father's legacy through his surfboard brand's tiger logo. He began surfing in 1964 at California Street in Ventura, using a Duke Kahanamoku pop-out board his parents bought him. During his high school years at University High in Pacific Palisades, Clyde rode for the Hobie/Blue Cheer Surf Shop in Santa Monica, where shaper Mike Perry became a key influence. At the Blue Cheer factory, Clyde learned to shape and glass surfboards, incorporating Dick Brewer’s down rail concept into his Rocket Fish designs. Initially shaping boards out of necessity for the contest circuit, Clyde’s practical start evolved into a career defined by innovation and craftsmanship.
