Description

This vintage Insomniac Poster signed in pencil by memorable artist, Earl Newman, is a truly iconic piece of SoCal art. The Insomniac Cafe in Venice, California, which is no longer in existence, opened its doors after Bob Hare saw a vacant Hudson Shoe Store for rent one fateful day in 1958. After taking out a $2000 loan to pay the monthly rent of $150, he opened his coffee shop. The cafe was known to stay open into the late hours of the night, hence how the coffeeshop earned its name. It’s safe to say that the cafe was an instant sensation, making Hare over 6 figures in the first year. Legends tell of a young Linda Ronstadt waitressing at the cafe, and appearances from all sorts of performers; singers such as The Chamber Brothers, and even poets like Allen Ginsburg took the stage at this cafe. After 8 years of business, the authorities took hold of this cafe, ending the cafe's operations, but the legacy of the Insomniac Cafe can be yours to preserve with this outstanding, original poster.

Dimensions: 35 inches high x 23 inches wide. Condition: Modest discoloration to paper from age, ink colors are still vibrant.
