Born in 1910 in Spokane, Washington, William Dampier spent much of his artistic career in Los Angeles, painting from his studio atop Mt. Washington. Known for his brilliant use of color and fine draftsmanship, Dampier was a master of impressionism, with subjects ranging from desert landscapes to still lifes. His works, recognized for their rich textures and vibrant palettes, have found their way into multiple respected collections.

A pupil of notable artists Jack W. Smith and Ejnar Hansen, Dampier was a member of the Laguna Arts Association and exhibited at the Webb Gallery (Los Angeles) in 1971 and the Long Beach Museum in 1978.
