Own a piece of artistic brilliance with "Horses in Flight," a majestic painting of galloping horses by the renowned American public artist, Lumen Martin Winter (December 12, 1908 – April 5, 1982).

An early WPA artist, Winter created a rich portfolio of over 50 public art projects during his lifetime. His mastery spans diverse media, from oil paint to watercolor, marble, and wood, showcasing his refusal to confine himself to a single artistic approach. His contributions include iconic art installations at the AFL-CIO building in Washington, D.C., the United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel in Colorado Springs, CO, the United Nations General Assembly Building in New York, NY and the National Wildlife Federation Building.

This painting reflects Winter's early projects commissioned under the Works Progress Administration (WPA). We suspect that he painted it in his studio, built in the desert outside Taos in 1939. This area became a hub of inspiration for Winter as he traveled along the Santa Fe Trail and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, capturing the essence of the countryside.

Despite professional success, Winter maintained a low profile, dedicated to his craft and surrounded by a studio filled with half-finished watercolors and art books. Friends described him as one who enjoyed jokes and never overly solemn. Acquire this masterpiece that reflects Winter's connection to nature and his unparalleled artistic dedication.
