A great piece from the year YES came roaring back. This 1984 World Tour baseball tee pairs a black body with white three-quarter raglan sleeves, graphics front and back, and that easy vintage shape that gives you more presence than a standard tee without trying too hard.
Description

YES had already spent the 1970s making some of progressive rock’s defining records. By 1984, they looked and sounded like a band that had found a completely new gear.

This original World Tour baseball tee comes from that moment. Black through the body with contrasting white raglan sleeves, it has the lean, athletic shape that makes these early-’80s concert shirts so good to wear.

The front carries a large multicolor YES graphic with the band’s futuristic 90125-era imagery. The reverse strips things down to the YES logo, “World Tour 1984,” and the small Sparkomatic Car Sound tour-sponsor mark.

It’s a strong shirt without being loud about it—the black-and-white body does most of the work, while the graphics give you the unmistakable period hit. An original piece from a year when YES managed the difficult trick of sounding contemporary without losing who they were.

Very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age.

Fabric + Care

For vintage T-shirt care: hand wash cold only using a mild detergent. Wash gently and only when needed; do not soak, scrub, or wring. Reshape while damp and lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight. Do not bleach or tumble dry. If ironing is necessary, use low heat from the reverse side and avoid direct heat on the printed graphics.

Vintage fabric and original screen printing can become more delicate with age, so the gentlest possible care is recommended.
Found + Chosen

90125 wasn’t simply another YES record. The band had effectively broken up in 1981, then returned with Jon Anderson back on vocals, Tony Kaye back on keyboards, and Trevor Rabin bringing a completely new guitar-and-songwriting presence. “Owner of a Lonely Heart” went to No. 1 in the U.S. in January 1984—the band’s first and only American No. 1 single—and the video helped introduce YES to an MTV generation that may have known little about the long progressive-rock history that came before it. 

There’s a particularly good California chapter to this shirt. The 1984 tour came through Southern California for two nights at the Forum in Inglewood, March 26 and 28, with a San Diego Sports Arena show between them, before heading north to the Cow Palace. And that little Sparkomatic logo on the back isn’t incidental: the car-audio company sponsored a technically ambitious tour that Billboard described as using computer and laser projection—a very 1984 collision of arena rock, new technology, MTV-era image, and car-stereo culture. 

That is what makes the shirt worth remembering. It comes from the moment YES proved a band associated with the 1970s could reinvent itself for the video age—and become bigger in America in the process.
