Rare early 1960s military tour jacket with full-chainstitched back map of divided Germany and precision embroidery throughout. A standout relic from the Cold War era, linking Minnesota roots to European deployment.

Description

This original U.S. military tour jacket from 1962 is a wearable piece of global history—made at the height of the Cold War and hand-embroidered with remarkable specificity. The black satin body features white knit cuffs and waistband, with dual sleeve embroidery reading MINNESOTA and SAUK CENTER, while the chest honors DALE and the 5½ Transportation Corps (5½ TC) with vivid insignia patches, including the globe-and-wing emblem and unit crest.

But the real showstopper is the back: a full-color, hand-embroidered map of Germany as it was in the early 1960s—divided, detailed, and labeled with cities like Berlin, Leipzig, Frankfurt, and Boeblingen, where this jacket’s original owner was stationed at Panzerkaserne barracks near Stuttgart. The dates 1961 – 1963 frame the jacket’s tenure overseas, marking a time of geopolitical tension and personal transformation.
