Jewelry and Care

Exposure over extended periods of time to the elements can cause your high quality jewelry to tarnish more quickly and look aged. If you are not going to wear it for a while put it in a place that is dark, cool, and dry.

The prongs that hold the bezel set gems in place on the sterling silver jewelry can be damaged. If left damaged the stone may fall out and be lost. If you notice that the bezel is damaged contact us and we will be happy to repair it for a nominal fee.

If you see that your sterling silver is taking on a darker, yellow, or blackish color it is tarnishing. This happens when it is exposed to moisture, body oils, acids, and other elements. This is natural. Use the jewelers cloth to regularly buff your jewelry. If it is too tarnished contact us and we can clean it for you.

Jewelers Cloths are soft cloths made just for shining your jewelry. They are cheap and can be purchased in many places. They can also be used to wrap your jewelry in.

Handling and Protection

DO NOT bend or widen bracelets, necklaces, or other jewelry that is made of sterling silver or other stiff metals. Repeated bending over time will damage the metals and can alter the look of the imagery on them.

If the piece has a bezel set turquoise or other stones, bending it can make them loose or possibly lead to them falling out.

If you have a piece that does not fit properly, please contact us and we would be happy to adjust it for you.

Avoiding Damage

Avoid hitting or dropping the cuff on hard surfaces, as this may damage the turquoise or distort the metal.

Avoid chemicals, water, and harsh cleaning methods; instead, gently clean with a dry polishing cloth.

Remove the bracelet before activities like swimming, cleaning, or applying lotions or perfumes.

Storage

Store separately in a soft-lined box or cloth bag to prevent scratches.

Keep in a cool, dry, dark place.

Avoid long-term plastic storage — wrap in a soft cloth instead.

Add a moisture absorber like silica gel or activated charcoal to prevent tarnish.

Professional Assistance

If the turquoise becomes loose or the bezel is damaged, consult a professional jeweler who specializes in vintage or Native American jewelry.

Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners.

For heavy tarnish or repairs, contact us for professional cleaning and restoration.

Additional Information

Pieces like this emerged in the creative swell of the 1950s–70s, when Native jewelers began merging traditional silversmithing with modernist ideas—resulting in striking works that were both rooted in culture and future-looking. This cuff likely dates to that era, with a design that references the four directions or an abstracted butterfly form, depending on the viewer’s lens. The presence of a single natural turquoise stone grounds it firmly in the spirit of the Southwest.

A true collector’s piece and an icon of wearable art.

Add this one-of-a-kind cuff to your collection and carry the spirit of vintage independence and artistic power wherever you go.
