1984 Duran Duran at peak MTV-era form—a deadstock USA tour raglan from the Sing Blue Silver tour, with killer graphics front and back and the kind of three-quarter-sleeve shape that gives you the ease of a T-shirt with a little more presence.

Description

1984 was a very good year to be Duran Duran—

Made for the U.S. tour during the Seven and the Ragged Tiger era, this shirt has the classic early-’80s baseball-shirt body: heather grey through the torso, deep navy raglan sleeves, a curved hem, and graphics on both sides.

The front carries a full-color image of the band beneath the red Duran Duran script and oversized blue-and-red lettering, with Seven and the Ragged Tiger worked into the design. The back is more stripped down: 1984, USA, the red diamond tour emblem, and the names Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, and Andy Taylor.

It is a great-looking shirt from a moment when music, fashion, graphics, and MTV were all colliding at once. The grey-and-navy combination keeps it wearable, while the double-sided print gives it exactly enough attitude.

Deadstock vintage and in very good overall condition, with minor age or storage wear consistent with an original 1984 garment.

Found + Chosen

This shirt comes from Duran Duran’s 1984 Sing Blue Silver tour, supporting Seven and the Ragged Tiger at the moment the band became a full-scale arena phenomenon. The tour was filmed for Sing Blue Silver, and Duran Duran were also pushing the live show visually, becoming the first act to use live video cameras and screens as part of their concert presentation.

For our California audience, there’s another great connection: the tour played two nights at the Forum in Los Angeles on February 6 and 7, 1984, followed later by California dates in Oakland and San Diego. Concert footage from the same tour period also fed into Arena, while MTV broadcast material from the project—placing this shirt right inside the moment when pop music, fashion, film, and music video were becoming one visual culture.

There’s something particularly right about that moment being preserved on an American raglan. Duran Duran represented the new British pop world—music, fashion, photography, video, and image all working together—printed here onto one of the most American of T-shirt forms: the baseball shirt. The USA tour graphics and the names of the classic five-member lineup place it squarely in that brief period when Duran Duran seemed to be everywhere at once.
