Store Manager

We are seeking one outstanding retail leader to quickly grow into the Store Manager position. This candidate should be a genuine salesperson who is highly organized, operationally-minded and dedicated to building and nurturing an all-star sales team through feedback, guidance and one-on-one training. We are looking for a candidate that is comfortable joining the sales team in an immersive sales associate role for a short period of time, wherein their skill set, demeanor and effectiveness will be evaluated by the business owners. After that period has ended and the candidate has fully absorbed the Surfing Cowboys ethos, they will be ready to step into the Store Manager role. 

 

This opportunity is an ideal fit for a candidate that has experience working with both smaller and larger retail companies in the past and is looking for a new challenge where their role and their contributions will be essential to the growth of the company. 

 

The Store Manager will work directly in collaboration with Donna & Wayne Gunther, the business owners and founders of Surfing Cowboys, to ensure all store operations are being executed, the sales team is being effectively managed and all business needs of our Malibu location are being met. As Surfing Cowboys continues to expand operations, we are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible candidate that is interested in putting down roots and growing with us as we start an exciting next chapter in the Surfing Cowboys story. 

 

The Store Manager, like our sales associates, should enjoy the art of storytelling and will act as matchmakers- pairing our customers with our unique and wide-ranging product selection in store. They should also feel inspired by the Surfing Cowboys lifestyle and aesthetic, as they are first and foremost, ambassadors of the brand and will be conveying our brand message to customers around the world.

 

Qualifications

5+ years retail leadership required

5+ years demonstrated operational excellence required 

Interest (or knowledge) of Surf Culture

Interest (or knowledge) of Americana, Mid-century Modern Furniture & Design

Experience selling vintage merchandise

Flexible leader that is willing to work with a beginner’s mindset

Excellent written communication skills

Problem-solver

Self-starter who is extremely detail-oriented and able to multitask

Adaptable to the ever-changing needs of the business

Highly proficient with technology, computers and Instagram

Experience with Lightspeed POS, BigCommerce and G-Suite preferred

Foreign language skills a plus

Must be able to lift 30 pounds

Must be available to work weekends

 

A Day in the Life

Leading our sales team to drive business through customer engagement

Ensuring daily store operations are being executed consistently and efficiently

Ensuring ECOM orders are fulfilled on a daily basis

Creating structure by implementing policy and procedure standards amongst team

Ensuring all customers needs are being met, both in-store and through followup via phone & email

Assisting owners with product orders & maintaining appropriate inventory levels

Interviewing, hiring and training sales team

Connecting our customers to our product and being a brand ambassador for Surfing Cowboys

Ensuring the space stays clean and organized. 

Tracking, receiving and stocking all new inventory receipts

Creating and updating descriptions of new merchandise in-store, online and in training materials

Maintaining Surfing Cowboys Instagram account

Maintaining product knowledge of all items and categories in store (care instructions, uses, etc) and ensuring team is kept up-to-date on the same
