Place of origin:

Originally the New Mexico portion of 666, now known as 149, ran through Gallup via Shiprock to Cortez, Colorado - it travels through one of the most beautiful and mystical parts of the country, and through the spiritual heart of the Navajo Nation This is an original and authentic vintage New Mexico Route 666 sign, in mint condition, it was never circulated or put into service. Photographed by day to show it's clear white graphics and by night to show it's reflective qualities. This sign was acquired from a New Mexico dealer who bought the sign from a retired New Mexico State Department of Transportation employee in the 1970's. History tells us that the origins of 666 are based on the map logic of the Joint Board of Interstate Highways, and nothing more. Prior to it's inclusion into the US Highway system, the route was known as the Navajo Trail and was included in the nation's parks loop or park configuration.
