This table was made in the late 1600s or early 1700s, at some stage, later, it was hand painted. The painting is masterful and depicts a tranquil scene of boats, birds, plants and the wonderful hues of a sunset. The split leg is adorned on the flat inside as well as the outer edge. The extensions are solid wood and show wonderful patina and age. The table is sturdy and can actually take daily use or may be used for decoration. The table has a tag that gives the name of the Chicago store and auction house that sold it: John A Colby and Sons Chicago. It's listed as auction item #28565. The Auction House opened in 1869, it closed in the 1940s. A drawer is fitted is fitted under the table top on one side. Drop leaf sides allow for compact storage and fantastic viewing options. Each leaf measures 22.25 inches.
