Greta Magnusson Grossman for Glenn of CA, Buffet Deck with Walnut case, shelves, and leg supporters featuring brass legs and original, vintage translucent glass doors.
Greta Magnusson Grossman (1906-1999) was a pioneering Swedish-American architect and designer. She began her education and early career, in the 1930s, as one of a handful of female designers who defined Swedish Modernism. After establishing herself as an award winning designer of rank in Stockholm, Magnusson Grossman married the jazz bandleader Billy Grossman in 1940 and moved to Los Angeles to set up shop in Beverly Hills with the tag line "Swedish modern furniture, rugs, lamps and other home furnishings." Greta Garbo, Joan Fontaine and Gracie Allen were among her celebrity clients and she was hired to design for many California based furniture and furnishing companies. Magnusson Grossman's architecture and design merged with the design energy of the era at the time when "California Modernist Style" was coming into its own. A recent exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of California Art highlighted Magnusson's influential role in Califonria design and her rare accomplishments as both an industrial designer and architect. We are thrilled to offer for sale this wood Buffet Cabinet designed by Greta Magnusson Grossman during her time in California.
