Original vintage painting by the leading black-velvet artist of the twentieth century Edgar William Leetag. Born in East St Louis, Illinois Leetag moved to Arkansas at 16 years old to work with an uncle who was a sign painter. Work was slim and competition fierce during the depression years so when Leetag had an invitation to work in Tahiti he took it. In Tahiti Leetag concentrated on painting Island women, an agent in Hawaii marketed him as the Gaugin of Tahiti and his work reached international acclaim amongst a certain type of art connoisseur. There are many reproductions and many prints of his work - we offer for sale an authentic original in excellent condition. This painting has been in the care of a Southern California collector for an extensive period of time. We offer it for sale in its original frame. Frame measures 23" High x 21.5" wide x2" Deep.
