This stunning rendering of the whole Los Angeles Bay offers a view from a high vantage point and showcases the terraced hills cascading down to Topanga where the mighty Pacific is putting on a show. A large swell is coming through, perfect sets peeling right with Sunset Beach going off! The sun is setting, its last hurrah giving us the golden shimmer over Palos Verdes and Catalina Island. The Moon is slowly coming up over the mountains, the lights of the city unaware of the big sets roiling in on the Pacific. From Downtown LA to the Palisades in the north to Redondo in the south, oh what a light show! Revelers on Santa Monica pier (top center) have a great seat - but the best seat in town is reserved for the Surfers, from the water the light show is on full tilt, the waves are big and perfect and LA is the only place in the world you need to be. MAGIC!
This original painting was commissioned by the Surfing Heritage Auction in 2015 and executed by Matt Beard (signed on back stretcher) in acrylic on canvas.Matt's major body of work is "fast art" inspired by the California Coast, he told us that he worked in his studio for several weeks on this particular painting.
